Tofino 1 Year Anniversary
October 19, 2011 at 11:45 AM
To: All Members Ambulance Paramedics & Emergency Dispatchers of BC
Brothers and Sisters:
It was one year ago today that Paramedic Unit Chief Jo-Ann Fuller and Paramedic Ivan Polivka tragically lost their lives in the line of duty while returning to Tofino in the early morning hours from a call.
Jo-Ann and Ivan, like so many others, dedicated their lives to the ambulance service, their communities and the public that they served.
The loss of Jo-Ann and Ivan was a tragedy not only to their family and friends, but a dark day for the emergency services community locally, regionally, provincially and nationally.
In the public safety profession, we never know what the next call may be, or if it will put us in harm’s way. All we can do is rely on our emergency services family to keep each other safe on every call.
Please take a moment to reflect and remember Jo-Ann and Ivan today. Members of your executive will be travelling to Tofino with leaders from the BCAS to spend the day with the friends, family, crew and community that Jo-Ann and Ivan dedicated their lives to making a better place.
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.”
In Solidarity,
