Many of you have reached out on the many current issues we are facing, and I understand that there are a lot of questions surrounding our plans, processes, and strategy for our next collective agreement. We appreciate there is lots of anticipation around the status of bargaining, and although we have not started formal bargaining, the work and preparation have been in progress leading up to and following convention.
Your PEC/PEB has met multiple times in strategic planning sessions. In addition, your directors and bargaining committee have met and begun the work preparing for bargaining, including training and strategic planning. The committee is set to meet again on April 5th and continue preparation. We meet weekly to discuss collaborative initiatives that put our members’ concerns first.
Recently, we have been working through Essential Service Orders (ESO) processes (as a requirement under the labour code) as well as the well upcoming changes in the Employment Standards Act (ESA) and its implications as of April 1st and into our next Collective Agreement.
Our Collective Agreement is set to expire on March 31, 2022, and we are in a legal position to begin bargaining. However, we have not commenced notice to bargain as there are several outstanding items remaining from the last round of bargaining, such as the ESA, ESO, JIC initiatives, SOC MOU/Review, RRIF/Surge additional resources and positions, and many joint initiatives that have stemmed from the Government’s announcements and commitments from July 14 & Dec 3rd, 2021.
