My name is Karly Jones, and I am seeking your support for election to the Board. I live and work in Kamloops as a paramedic educator, clinician, wife, and mother of two. Throughout my career, I have been committed to serving both the public and the paramedic profession, and I believe my experience, leadership, and dedication will allow me to effectively represent the interests of our members at the Board level.
I have been a licensed paramedic in British Columbia since 1992. Over the past three decades, I have worked in communities across the province, including Mackenzie, Bear Lake, Fraser Lake, Vanderhoof, Prince George, Kamloops and Kelowna air operations. These experiences have provided me with a strong understanding of the diverse challenges and opportunities faced by paramedics working in rural, remote, and urban settings. They have also reinforced my appreciation for the important work performed by paramedics every day.
Education and professional development have been central to my career. I have worked as an Occupational First Aid instructor and evaluator, a Canadian Red Cross Instructor Trainer, and a sessional instructor with the Justice Institute of British Columbia. Since 2006, I have worked within the Clinical Education department (Learning) of BC Ambulance Service, helping develop and deliver educational programs that support paramedics throughout British Columbia. I have been involved in major practice changes, scope expansions, and provincial training initiatives that have contributed to the advancement of paramedicine and improved patient care.
My work has allowed me to collaborate extensively with the Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board. Through education development, program approvals, licensing requirements, and regulatory processes, I have gained a thorough understanding of the standards that support safe, ethical, and effective paramedic practice. I firmly believe that strong governance and meaningful professional advocacy are both essential to supporting practitioners while ensuring public confidence in our profession.
More recently, I have had the privilege of serving as an EMALB examiner, assisting in the development of provincial examination resources, and contributing as an expert witness during investigations. These experiences have broadened my understanding of regulation, accountability, and the responsibilities associated with professional self-governance. They have also strengthened my commitment to ensuring that paramedics have knowledgeable and experienced representation in decision-making processes.
Throughout my career, I have worked to build relationships, encourage collaboration, and promote constructive dialogue. I believe effective Board members must listen carefully, respect differing perspectives, and focus on solutions that benefit both members and the profession. My background provides a unique combination of frontline experience, educational leadership, and regulatory knowledge that I believe will be valuable in supporting the Board\\\'s work.
I am proud to have received both the King Charles III Coronation Medal and the Exemplary Service Award. While these recognitions are meaningful, the greatest privilege of my career has been supporting paramedics and helping strengthen our profession.
If elected, I will be a strong, informed, and approachable voice for the membership. I will advocate for professional growth, transparency, collaboration, and the continued advancement of paramedicine in British Columbia. It would be an honor to serve on the Board and represent the interests of our members with integrity, professionalism, dedication, and respect.
