Indigenous Health Navigator

Election ends April 30, 2024

Stuart Myers

Submitted March 22, 2024

With gratitude to my nominator, I am announcing that I will be running for Indigenous Health Navigator for the remainder of 2024 until convention.   I am writing this from the unceded and traditional territories of the Coast Salish people of the Snuneymuxw First Nation.  I am grateful to call this area my home and where I work, live, and play.    I am a mixed-race Metis with Scottish and Cree ancestry on my father’s side and English on my mothers.   I did not grow up knowing of my Metis ancestry and only over the past few years have I learned of my family history and continue my journey of learning.   For those that don’t know me my name is Stuart (Stu) Myers and I have been serving as RVP 1 N for the past 2 terms (4 years) and also as the Indigenous representative for CUPE 873.   Following the release of ‘In-Plain-Sight’ I approached the Provincial Executive in 2020 with a proposal to develop a position on our Provincial Executive Board to include an Indigenous worker’s position.   The goal was to develop a position that supported our own Indigenous members but to also to work with and build stronger relationships and supports for communities across British Columbia.   Since the creation of the position, I have worked and continue to work alongside of the BCEHS Indigenous Health Team.  Together we discuss the vision and strategic plan going forward and some of the challenges we face. Recently I was honored to attend a face-to-face meeting with the Indigenous Health team in Vancouver.    Many fantastic ideas and initiatives are being discussed and worked on.  We continue to work on developing more cultural training and better understanding for our members.   If elected, I would continue the work and partnership that is developing and bring the voice of CUPE 873 to the table.   I am proud to say that together we have also worked to have an alternative dispute process and have provided a healing circle as an avenue of reconciliation to our members and complainants.   I hope to be able to formalize this as an alternative to traditional discipline.   Professionally, I am an ACP, currently attached to Station 122 but working on 180 J, fixed wing interfacility transfer plane based at Nanaimo airport.   2024, marks my 35th year with BCEHS.  My professional career has taken me from my home station of 426, Salmo to Vancouver (lower mainland) and finally ending here in Nanaimo in 2005.   I have many years of involvement and activisim with CUPE 873, beginning in Vancouver in the early 90’s as Public Education Director for 3 and ½ terms.   After a few years hiatus I returned to the executive board as an RVP in 2020 just as COVID ramped up.   In the past 4 years I am proud to have served as part of the executive who worked through the pandemic, opioid crisis, heat dome and was part of the most successful contract ratified by our members.   I am honored to have been part of the team that has pushed for and seen significant changes to our service and staffing levels across this province.   Over the past 4 years I have participated in multiple union committees and events.  These include events such as the Paramedic Association of Canada conferences, Paramedics on the Hill lobbying of MP’s, Provincial lobbying, UBCM, and CUPE 873, CUPE BC, and CUPE National conventions.   Currently I am part of the Indigenous Specific Anti Racism (ISAR) working group as well as the ACP working group.   If elected, I hope to continue the work that I have started.  I intend on continuing to strive to support cultural safety, humility, and knowledge amongst our members.  I am committed on enhancing Indigenous cultural awareness within CUPE 873 and BCEHS through the partnership and relationship with Indigenous Health.  I commit to build a framework to enhance member knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by Indigenous patients, families, and communities.   Maarsii (thank you)

Election ends April 19, 2024

Sarah Emily Spencer

Submitted March 19, 2024

Hello all, My name is Sarah Spencer, and I honoured to be nominated for the Region 1 North Recording Secretary Position. I am a full time PCP out of 119 Lake Cowichan, and I am currently the Recording Secretary for Region 1 North. I have been in the position since last year and would love to have the opportunity to continue the work I have started. My goals for the past year have been to strengthen the Shop Steward Network, engage with the Safety Reps on the Island, and to create a filing and scheduling system. Hopefully you have seen my work with the increasing amount of Union Meetings through face-to-face meetings and virtual information sessions. There is also a Region 1 North Paramedics Facebook page where we can now all connect about Union Meetings, Union Shift Coverage, and important initiatives in our region like Wounded Warriors. Going forward I would like to see additional support from the Regional Executive Team for our Shop Stewards in more education and build on their skills as 11.04 meeting note takers. Growing their talents on dealing with Step 1 Grievances at a station level would allow issues with pay, vacation, or scheduling to be dealt with in a more timely fashion. With renewed resources I hope to reduce the Safety Rep fatigue issues that have been brought to my attention in the Cowichan Valley. With the support of the RVPs and Management, I see a way forward where the work isn’t so heavy that this leads to burn out. I see the hard work our Safety Reps put in and want to find a way to better support their efforts. With BCEHS I have been a CIS peer volunteer since 2019 and just recently started as an instructor. With APBC I am also a Trauma Resiliency Trainer and hope to continue being an advocate for mental health supports. Outside of work and my Union duties I have two dogs that keep me active with lots of hikes and adventures. Overall, I hope to continue to support the RVPs and Region 1 North membership as we move through the next couple years with a new contract and whatever else comes our way. If you would like to chat with me, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Sarah.spencer@apbc.ca.

I am a full time PCP out of 119 Lake Cowichan, and I am currently the Recording Secretary for Region 1 North. I have been in the position since last year and have loved the opportunities to grow my skills with the Union. I have been honoured to sit alongside the current RVPs and learn the role firsthand having been the acting RVP multiple times. I have taken my time in this role seriously. I have sat in 11.04 meetings as a notetaker and run them as the Union representation. I helped coordinate the most recent Regional Joint Labour Management Meeting, where important issues for our region were discussed and decisions made at the Director level. I’ve helped improve relationships across the region with UC’s, Managers, Directors, and HR to create a working environment where we can collaborate and resolve issues quicker. I have also sat in on Grievance Caucus for the Island and the Province, providing feedback and managing grievances. For the past year I have improved our supports for Shop Steward and Safety Reps network as they continue to do great work. If elected, my goals for the term would be to support our Shop Stewards to deal with Step 1 Grievances at a station level, allowing issues with pay, vacation, or scheduling to be dealt with in a timelier fashion. There is always more room for engagement with our members about what is going on at a regional and provincial level and I would like to encourage more regional meetings about topics such as pensions, mental health, benefits, and any other topics our members bring forward. Submitted February 16, 2024

Hi, For those of you who do not know me, my name is Stephen Shipman and I have been working for BCEHS since 1996. Currently I am working out of Station 180 in Nanaimo and living in Courtenay. I truly believe we have the best career in the world, yet sometimes we have issues with our employer, or even other employees. We have one set of rules, one collective agreement, which must be followed by all parties involved. At the end of the day, regardless of licence level, we are all the same: CUPE 873 members who deserve to be treated fairly, equitably, and with respect. I promise to do my best to make sure that every member I represent gets treated fairly and appropriately by both the Union and our employer. I truly believe we must hold our employer accountable, not only for their actions, but for their inactions (the stuff they don\'t do, but should). In my time away from work, I enjoy being a father to two wonderful daughters (18 & 15), a step daughter (14), and two step sons (17 &19). I am also an avid outdoorsman and skier. I really love living in Courtenay as it brings me closer to the nature I prefer to be in. I am easy to get a hold of if you have any questions or concerns. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Cheers, Stephen 604-723-9652 astryx@gmail.com

Hello everyone, I’m running for the Regional Recording Secretary for the 2 East Region. I am an Advanced Care Paramedic at station 206 in Chilliwack and have been with BCEHS since 2017 as an EMR, PCP, and now an ACP. I believe I would be a good candidate for the Recording Secretary position because I have experience in governance, committee work, and policy. My education includes a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, a Master of Arts in Disaster and Emergency Management, a Diploma in Health Sciences (EMS), and my PCP and ACP training at the JIBC. For experience, I have sat on several committees throughout my undergraduate degree including the University level Board of Governors Committee, Academic Appeal Committee, and the Senate Governance Committee. Also, while at University, I was involved in the Student Union for two years where I held student Vice-President and then President elected positions. Through the University Student Union, I sat on the governance committee, budget committees, and chaired Student Union board meetings including general meetings. I also held a one year elected Secretary position for the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations. I am experienced with the BC Societies Act, Roberts Rules of Order, committee work, policy writing, and have been involved in multiple bylaws and policy working committees. Through my Advanced Care Paramedic program, I was co-class lead with another one of my peers and helped navigate student questions and issues through the program leads and JIBC leadership. With BCEHS I am a Critical Incident Stress Peer and was previously an acting Safety Officer for a year and a half. I do not have any experience working for our union, but I hope to learn a lot and use my prior experience and education to be helpful in the recording secretary role if elected. Thank you for your time!

I have been a member of CUPE 873 since 1999 when I was hired in Keremeos, BC as a PCP.  I spent time in a number of casual PCP roles in region 2 and 3, until I completed my ACP in 2005 and took a full-time job in Vancouver Post. In 2008, I moved to Abbotsford, where I currently work as an ACP.    I began my role within the union as a shop steward for Region 2 East in 2008, and became RVP in 2009, which was also the year of a bitter labour dispute between APBC and the BC Liberal government.  This was a steep learning curve and a dynamic environment to take on a larger role within the executive level of our union and I recognized early the hard work and dedication and takes to serve our membership, as diverse as we are.  In 2017, I stepped away from my role as RVP to continue personal growth in medicine by applying to medical school, graduating with an M.D. Degree and a master's in science in 2022. I am currently working on my PHD in neuromotor science.     I stepped back into a vacant Region 2 East RVP role in 2023. My interest in continuing as RVP is a consistent drive for advocacy of our membership, both in the region and across the province.  Since I started in 2009, the RVP portfolio has shifted away from punitive interactions by the employer, to more interpersonal relationship conflict management and trauma informed, evidence-based approach to member wellness. This more personalized approach to  management by our employer requires articulate, well educated and decisive representatives to help guide managers while interacting with our membership.  The environment we work in is demanding and evolves rapidly, requiring supportive leaders who have your mental wellness as a first priority.    I have been and will continue to strongly advocate for the support and understanding of our profession with local community leaders, allied health responder agencies and provincial government officials.    I truly enjoy the role of RVP and feel the roles I have within both BCEHS and CUPE 873 provide me knowledge and experience to serve our membership effectively. Paramedics do a hard, thankless job; it's a job I'm proud to be a part of.

Sean Baron Hello APBC Members, my name is Sean Baron and I am pleased to have been nominated for the position of Two East Regional Vice President. I started with BCEHS as a OFA level 3  back in Oct 1 , 2004 in Lillooet and then work my way up to EMR and then PCP IV, and then heading to the Fraser valley in 2008. Then get full-time in the Lower Mainland in Jan 1, 2010 doing PCPIV paramedic work and  de-paired ALS & ITT in 2013. I am currently a paramedic station out of 215 Mission where I am a union steward. I have been a union steward for 4 year. I am here for the people and my membership. I do my best to represent my fellow union member by following the contract & constitutional and make sure everyone is treat fairly and with respect.
  • Monitor and enforce the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement (labor contract) to ensure both the employer and union worker are not violating the terms of the agreement.
  • Ensure that the employer is in compliance with all national, Provincial and local laws and regulations.
  • Represent and defend fellow workers whom the employer believes violated company policy or the terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement, often through the grievance process.
  • Communicate and disseminate official union policy, memos and directives to workers in the shop.
  • Popularize and promote union consciousness and values in the workplace.
Unlike other union representatives, stewards work on the shop floor, connecting workers with union officials at regional or national levels. The role of shop stewards may vary from being a mere representative of a larger national union towards independent structures with the power of collective bargaining in the workplace. When you vote for Sean Baron you get a RVP that works for you not me but you. I am here to represent the members on front-line work hard out here. I will do my best for the members if I get voted in. Please feel free to each out to me and ask question by email or messenger. Remember I am her for you the members of Cupe 873

I have chosen not to run for reelection for RVP after almost a decade of serving our region. However, I submit my name to stand for this position in hopes to transition my efforts into another role while still assisting the RVP’s during times of heavy workload.

For the past few years, I have had the privilege of serving our membership as one of the four RVPs comprising the 2W Regional Executive. I am now seeking your vote for re-election with the hope of continuing to build on the valuable work, advocacy, and support I have provided to our membership. Over the past few years, we have worked diligently and witnessed year-over-year improvements in the actual grievance backlog. This means your grievances are addressed faster and presented to the employer for resolution in a timely fashion. With your vote, I will continue to be your labour relations advocate and protect your collective agreement rights. If I don't know the answer, I will ensure I find the answer for you. I take pride in offering steadfast support to our membership through the 11.04 process by ensuring our members are well-informed, are educated about their rights, and how to best prepare for their meeting(s). I am committed to engaging with our members who are either new to our service in NEO or new to Region 2W through the VPOP program after overhauling the delivery of our Union presentations. I will also continue to assist our Communications Team, continue working with our numerous media and PR campaigns when asked, and all other  innovative initiatives to promote our membership through this team. My other previous experiences within our Union include serving as the Region 2W Recording Secretary and a Shop Steward at the station level for multiple stations in the past. I was also a part of the Website Committee led by Warren Leeder that helped launch the new APBC website last year. Each of these previous experiences has helped me understand the labor relations side of our business and, with your vote, I look forward to playing a small role in the improvement and betterment of our ambulance service. If you have any specific questions please reach out to me at shane.sander@apbc.ca.

Submitted February 20, 2024

Hi, everyone. My name is Ian Tait, and I am running for one (of the two open) 2West RVP positions.  I am currently your Communications Director and the 2West Recording Secretary, which is up soon.  I have been nominated to step up to RVP to help out with our current team, which I have been doing as my schedule allows for the last few years.  We are very fortunate to have some great RVPs, including Shane Sander, Brinton Deluca, Candis Visser, and Kelly Budway.  Kelly is not re-running this term but is hopefully transitioning into a different position where she can still have an impact on this important work. I have long been an advocate with Cupe 873 and have represented members all across the province for 11.04s and 31.03s. I am a staunch ally to all paramedics and dispatchers of all license levels who make up this service.  I come to this position with a lot of experience fighting for our rights, protecting the collective agreement, and holding the Employer accountable for how they treat our members.  I have, and continue to fight for this union on a weekly basis, and I have always put the needs of our members first when representing them in any meeting.  I am a big proponent of promoting our union and profession provincially and federally, and I continue to help move this union forward in a productive and respectful way, but at the same time, I don't mind fighting for what we deserve and how we should be treated.  If you have any questions or want to reach out for advice or anything union-related, don't hesitate to message me at ian.tait@apbc.ca.

Brandon William Munroe

Submitted March 28, 2024

Hi all, My name is Brandon and I am one of the current RVPs for region 3. I have been an RVP for 3 years now and prior to that I have been the recording secretary and acting RVP for two years. During this time I have been able to accomplish a number of goals such as bi- weekly meetings with the ops directors, handle a massive grievance backlog in a 3 day marathon in which 195 or more grievances were actioned and I have been a constant advocate in our union board meetings for our region to bring attention to the problems faced by our members. If re elected I am looking forward to continuing the meetings with the ops directors to address problems as they appear rather than wait for grievances, as well I am planning on regulating our regional meetings to set days so that we can start meeting our by law requirements.  I hope to have your support during this election period, and I hope to continue supporting our members.
Jacob Alan Berthelot

Submitted March 25, 2024

My Name is Jake Berthelot, and I am looking for you vote for Regional Vice President. I have been a member of APBC since 2019 when I joined BCEHS as an Emergency Medical Call Taker and am now a Dispatcher and Acting Charge out of KDOC.   My Union involvement started in my previous career where I was a local Vice President with BCGEU. This built my foundation and understanding of employee rights, and the grievance process. Shortly after getting hired with BCEHS and joining APBC, I stepped into a Shop Steward role, and in 2022 was asked to fill a temporary vacancy of the RVP role and most recently was elected into the Regional Recording Secretary position in 2023.   In my time in the role, I have built relationships with the Provincial Executive members and the other Executive board members across the province. I have also built relationships with BCEHS manager that has resulted in expedited grievance processing time. In November of 2023 Region 3 has actioned all outstanding grievances actioned. This gave me an understanding of the importance of actioning grievances in a timely manner.   If elected I will continue this pathway with the other regional executive members, ensuring timely responses to members grievances. I will be available to answer any union questions the membership has or guide them to the appropriate channels. My previous union experience and roles with APBC has set me up for success in the role of Regional Vice President.     Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. Thank you for your support,     Jake Berthelot Jacob.Berthelot@apbc.ca

Region 4 Regional Public ED Director

Election ends April 19, 2024

Kimberly Okane

Submitted March 19, 2024

My name is Kimberly O'Kane and I currently work out of Station 424.  I am running for Region 4 Public Education Director because one of the best parts of my job is getting out in the community and creating positive interactions between the public and paramedics.  Our service has been in the media more and more for traumatic events, climate disasters, the pandemic, and other negativity.  I believe that it is vitally important to form connections with the people we serve so that when we do show up to help them at their worst moment, there is less fear and anxiety and more trust and relief. I have been working hard to get out in my community with the ambulance and all the APBC swag I can carry.  I harass my coworkers to get out there with me any chance I can.  I receive messages and pictures of kids in our community holding their favourite ambulance toys, requests for station visits or school visits and we are nearly at the point where an ambulance pulling up outside of the local school doesn't spur any fear or unwarranted concern, but rather, excitement.  It's been a challenge trying to out-perform the local fire crews but I believe that with enough support, volunteers, event organization and swag we can at least be equally as popular as a giant red truck-optimistic, I know. I think that being a paramedic is the coolest job in the world and I love hearing the questions kids ask about what we do and what we have in the ambulances we work out of.  I think that it is beneficial for the public to see what we do and understand that it isn't the blood and guts marathon that is depicted on TV.  Our line of work is considerably more compassionate, diverse, sporadically exhilarating (and traumatizing) but completely fulfilling.  I also, selfishly, consider it beneficial for myself and my coworkers to get out there and be proud of what we do.  I want to be able to share that feeling with every station in Region 4 and support the paramedics out there that I know have already been putting in countless hours and money into getting the people we serve jazzed about paramedics.  It's all about recruitment and succession planning, right?
Brenna Dean Beaulieu

Submitted March 6, 2024

Hi!, My name is Brenna Beaulieu, I currently am stationed at 405 in Elkford the very south eastern corner of the province. I am currently a PCP looking to upgrade eventually to ACP but what I like to tell everyone is that I started out as a first aider. I worked my way up from level 1 first aid to OFA 3 to EMR and now PCP and the journey has been awesome. My career background is colorful including roofing, McDonald's, vehicle sales, long haul truck driving, equipment operating for a local mine and now solely emergency services. It took me a while to find something I wanted to hang my hat on but I am so glad I finally ended up here today. Originally I come from the land of prairies ,never ending sunsets but also never ending mosquitoes, if you guessed Manitoba nice work! I made my way across the west and have been in Elkford for 5 years now with no intention on leaving anytime soon. Me and my partner have 2 big dogs which are of course spoiled fur children and we spend our winters out on our sleds up in the mountains of the east and west Kootenays. In the summer we like to camp in the south country of the east kootenay's or the Salmo River in the west. I am looking to be our representative of Public education for Region 4 for not just acute reasons but long term ones. I believe that by showing the community our contributions, providing free workshops/health fairs and getting involved with our youth is a way to not only show our value but to show the communities we live in that we are there to answer the call day or night. By building up community trust and showing how we are a major part of a successful community we can also help lobby for change and increased access to higher levels of care. My hope is if I am elected to gather a variety of communities big events and help liaison with a rep from those stations to support them in representing BCEHS in their own community. Too often I feel we are sent people from elsewhere who have no understanding of the community they are their trying to "talk to or present to" and by empowering individuals at their own stations I feel we can build up our public education program ten fold and advocate for increased levels of service and emergency health care to our big and small communities. Thank you for your consideration and I hope together we can make positive continuous impacts! Brenna B

Jordan Thomas Robert Croteau

Submitted March 19, 2024

Hello Brothers and Sisters, My name is Jordan Croteau, and I'm honoured to be running for APBC Region 4 Regional Recording Secretary. I have been with BCEHS since 2011, where I've served in Nakusp, Castlegar and finally Trail. I began as a Driver Only, EMR, PCP and completed my ACP training in 2016. I have been engaged with APBC work throughout my time with BCEHS, having been a Shop Steward for many years. I strongly believe in the value of an effective and unified union, and want to become more involved in all the positive work we're doing for our members throughout the region. Before becoming FT, I was employed by the Nelson Police Department, where I served as the Special Constable Representative with the Nelson Police Association. Through my time there I gained extensive experience in Collective Agreement interpretation and application. I completed Police Agent training through the BC Municipal Police Association which gave me experience defending our members against complaints generated by the OPCC. During my time on the NPA I sat on our Negotiations Committee, where I assisted our members in receiving the biggest contract gains we'd seen in decades. We as a union have seen historic gains over the past couple of years, and must ensure we keep moving our members and the profession forward. Our region continues to struggle with staffing challenges, low morale, employee work/life balance, APBC work being done by others (HART, KERPA etc) and inconsistent application of the CA throughout the region. We must work together to show a unified front and hold the employer accountable when necessary. Outside of work I have a wife (who also works for the Service) and 3 young boys. We enjoy getting out as a family as much as we can.

Hello fellow members of APBC. My Name is Kelly Budway and I am honoured to accept this nomination for the newly established position of Women’s Advocacy Director. As the author of the resolution that produced this role, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all delegates to the 2023 Convention who supported its creation.   My journey with BCEHS commenced in 2011 as an EMR. Over the years, I've worked in various capacities across rural, urban, and metropolitan stations throughout the province. I am currently the PCP Unit Chief in Pemberton. For nearly a decade, I've had the privilege of serving on the Provincial Executive Board as a Regional Vice President for 2 West. Additionally, I am currently serving my second consecutive term on our Negotiations Committee, contributing to some of the most significant contract gains in our history.   Through my tenure, I've come to deeply understand the challenges faced by women in our workforce. The prevalence of harassment and disrespect in the workplace remains a pressing issue, causing undue harm to our members. These obstacles often deter women from actively participating and advancing in their careers. Women encounter unique hurdles such as uniform fitting concerns, lack of maternity accommodations, and the transition back to work after extended parental leave. I am passionate about this new role serving as a strong voice for those who may struggle to advocate for themselves. My goal is to ensure that women within our membership feel not only included but empowered to excel within our organization and beyond.   I am deeply committed to this cause, and I invite you to connect with me at kelly.budway@apbc.ca or 778-829-9134 should you wish to further discuss this important topic.   Respectfully and in solidarity, Kelly Budway

My name is Josephine Miladinovic, I am running for the Provincial Women’s Advocacy Director position. This role represents a significant opportunity for advancing women’s rights within our service, a cause I am deeply passionate about.  My journey began as a paramedic in Tahsis, at the heart of the beautiful Nootka Sound, where I worked in a predominantly female crew, fostering a strong community based on mutual support and empowerment. My career, however, started in a vastly different environment – volunteering at a rugby club in Vancouver. There, surrounded by young men, I faced initial skepticism about my abilities. Through perseverance and a steadfast commitment to health and safety, I not only overcame these challenges but also changed perceptions, demonstrating the strength and capability of women in any field. This experience mirrors the broader challenges women face in the workplace and society. I believe that while we’ve made significant progress, there’s still much work to be done. I am running for the Women’s Advocacy Director position to ensure we continue to move forward, not back. I aim to champion initiatives that promote equality, provide support for women in our service, and create a culture of inclusivity and empowerment. I am committed to leveraging my experiences and passion to advocate for positive change. Together, we can work towards a future where every woman in our service feels valued, supported, and empowered to achieve her full potential. Thank you for your consideration I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to our shared goals. Sincerely, Josephine Miladinovic

Hello, my name is Camille McCluskey, and I’ve been nominated to be our first Women’s Advocacy Director. This would be a role of genuine passion for me, that I will serve the members well in, with a positive attitude and meaningful influence. I am grateful to our Executive and members for passing the resolutions that created the Women’s Advocacy Director position, as I understand far too well the many challenges women and mothers face while attempting to manage a full-time career and provide for their families My career with BCEHS began as an On-Call member in 2013. As many have done, I began by commuting to Golden until I could lateral home to the Okanagan. I then made the decision to commute to Vancouver for my Full-Time number in 2019. After accumulating enough seniority to transfer to my hometown of Vernon BC, I set my sights on a Unit Chief position in Nakusp, and began the commute all over again. While I did gain a true love for the Kootenays, I have most recently accepted an OCUC position in Region 3, putting the commuting portion of my career to rest, for now. I am also the co parent of a wonderful eight year old daughter, and have multiple other interests in my personal life, including family, a busy dog, and work for a non-profit. I have been involved in union work for a few years now. In that time, I have advocated for our members by fighting for fair and equitable treatment. I have held positions such as Shop Steward, Region 4 Recording Secretary, and recently became an ad hoc member of the APBC Communications Team. I have been working on various campaigns and recently completed media training to be a public voice for our membership. I strive to be a role model for young women by showing them that a balance of family and work life is achievable. If elected into this position, my first priority would be to hear your ongoing concerns, create solutions, and be a voice for women in our union. I believe this role is important not just for women but for our union and profession, and I would be honoured to be the first Women’s Advocacy Director. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at camille.mccluskey@apbc.ca.
Erin May Eileen Baker

Submitted February 26, 2024

My name is Erin Baker, and I have been nominated for the Women’s Advocacy Director position. I’ve been a paramedic since 2006. I have worked in remote, rural, urban, and provincial (air ambulance) settings in the service. I am currently a Critical Care Paramedic at station 280, and I’m running for the Women’s Advocacy Director position because I never want the service to go back to what it was, when I started. As a woman, I’ve been told that I don’t measure up, I don’t belong, and I won’t make it (among other things)…but I’ve proven all of those words wrong. This new position is one that we didn’t think that we needed; after a similar position was created, occupied by a male colleague, then deemed unnecessary 20 years ago. But here we are. I may not stay long in this position, but I think that I am well equipped to set it up for the future generation to take over. I want paramedicine to be welcoming and accepting to all. So, if this resonate with you, please vote for me as Women’s Advocacy Director.

Thank you for your time.
