Expression of Interest for APBC/EDBC Ceremonial Unit

There will be a selection process for the APBC/EDBC Ceremonial Unit (Honour Guard) – 10 Positions

We are looking for new team members who wish to represent their paramedic and emergency dispatcher professions on a provincial, national, and international level.  Members of the Ceremonial Unit are responsible for representing APBC/EDBC at numerous events and functions such as, but not limited to: funerals and celebrations of life, holiday parades, Remembrance Day ceremonies, fundraising and awareness events for important charities such as Honour House, as well as high-profile public events where our profession can be represented to the public.

Those interested in applying need ask themselves Am I a good candidate for this role? To be successful you must:

  • Be a member in good standing with APBC CUPE 873/873-02.
  • Have a satisfactory work record.
  • Be a self-motivated team player who enjoys volunteering for this important cause.
  • Be physically fit and able to execute your duties for long periods of time in all weather conditions.

You must have a history of professionalism in both your personal and work life as you will be expected to exemplify this at all times. The role of a CU member demands that you be self-motivated and enjoy volunteerism. Physical demands include executing military drill maneuvers such as marching long distances, carrying flags and occasionally enduring extremes in heat and cold for extended periods while in uniform. Do you have additional musical talent? Applicants who possess additional musical talent such as vocalists, bagpipers, and those who play trumpet, bugle, snare/side or base drum are encouraged to apply!

This Union EOI will CLOSE on October 11th, 2019 at 1600 hrs. All applications must be received in the Union office by mail, fax or electronic mail by that time.

The selection process will include all of the following:

Step 1:              Submission of application, resume and an essay of up to 500 words explaining why you would like to join the Ceremonial Unit and what qualities would make you an ideal applicant.  This application must be filled out completely with resume and essay attached and submitted by the deadline. 

Step 2:              Applicants short-listed will be contacted to attend a Ceremonial Unit Introduction Camp (date to be determined) at the applicant’s expense.

Step 3:              Successful participants of the Introduction Camp will be contacted, and a face-to-face interview will be scheduled.

Successful applicants will be required to pass a further 2-day training camp with our in-houseCeremonial Unit drill instructors before being considered “fit for duty”. You will be required to attend a minimum of 20% of all annual activities to maintain your position with the Ceremonial Unit.
