Constable John Davidson

Dear Members,

Re:  Fallen Abbotsford Police Officer Constable John Davidson

Yesterday, our public safety family lost a valued member when Abbotsford Police Officer, Constable John Davidson was killed in the line of duty. His actions have been described as courageous, and he will be remembered as a hero.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the family of the officer and everyone with Abbotsford Police Department during this difficult time. As well, we all have our paramedics and dispatchers who responded to this tragic call in mind.

The events of yesterday are tragic and can be overwhelming. Such loss can be difficult to process and elicit a strong emotional response, whether directly involved in the response, or not. There are support options available for any of our members in need of assistance.

Please do not hesitate to get support and use the resources available to you. If you see a colleague who you think may need support, reach out to them and/or make a referral to our Peer CISM Team. Again, the below supports are available to all members, whether on-duty during this event, or not.

Peer CISM Team – 1-855-969-4321

Confidential and available 24 hours a day by pager. Anyone can contact the team and they will do their best to connect you with a peer that you’re comfortable talking with (i.e. gender, license level, seniority, etc).

Psychological Network – 1-855-969-4321

When you call the CISM team pager, you can ask for a free and confidential referral to a psychologist or clinical counsellor in your area. All clinicians in the network are trauma informed and have experience working with first responders.

Homewood Human Solutions –1-800-663-1142

Available 24 hours a day, Homewood Human Solution provides a variety of services (including counselling) to employees and their families

Regional Vice-presidents (Jessica and Cy) are also available in the area to assist members with any matters related to leaves or other Collective Agreement questions.

I will be writing to the Abbotsford Police Department today to express condolences and support from our 4,500 Paramedics and Dispatchers in British Columbia. I will update you again when we have more details about this situation.

Please take care of yourself and each other, in this difficult time.
