Expression of Interest for APBC Ceremonial Unit – Trumpeters/Buglers

There will be a selection process for the APBC Ceremonial Unit (Honour Guard).

We are looking for trumpeters/buglers to join the Ceremonial Unit in our musical core who want to represent the Paramedic and Emergency Dispatcher professions on a provincial, national and international level.  Members of the Ceremonial Unit are responsible for representing APBC at numerous events and functions such as, but not limited to: funerals and celebrations of life, holiday parades, Remembrance Day ceremonies, fundraising and awareness events for important charities such as Honour House, as well as high-profile events where our profession can be represented to the public.

Those interested in applying need ask themselves Am I a good candidate for this roll? To be successful you must:

  • Be a member in good standing with APBC CUPE Local 873
  • Have a satisfactory work record
  • Be a self-motivated team player who enjoys volunteering for this important cause
  • Be physically fit and able to execute your duties for long periods of time in all weather conditions

You must have a history of being professional in both your personal and work life as you will be expected to exemplify this at all times.  The role of a CU member demands that you be self-motivated and enjoy volunteerism.  Physical demands include executing military drill maneuvers such as marching long distances, carrying flags and occasionally enduring extremes in heat and cold for extended periods while in uniform.

This Union EOI will CLOSE on April 2nd, 2021 at 2359 hrs. All applications must be received in the Union office by mail, fax or electronic mail by that time.

The selection process will include all of the following:

Step 1:           Submission of application, resume and an essay of up to 500 words explaining why you would like to join the Ceremonial Unit and what qualities you would bring to the Unit.  Application must be filled out completely. 

Step 2:           There will be an audition to play and a face-to-face interview.

Step 3:           Successful applicants must participate in the next scheduled 2-day training camp.

All successful applicants will be required to pass a 2-day training camp with our in-house Ceremonial Unit drill instructors and will be required to fully participate in the events they are tasked to attend, meaning all members must be able to perform all duties assigned to them including marching in parades, standing as sentries, carrying flags, and casket duties. You will be required to have a minimal participation of 20% of activities.
