Fallen Officer, Constable young
Re: Fallen Officer, Constable Young
Last night our public safety family lost a valued member when Abbotsford Police Officer, Constable Allan Young, succumbed to his injuries. Cst. Young had been on life support since last Thursday, when he suffered severe injuries following an incident in Nelson. Cst. Young was off-duty that evening and had intervened and tried to help with a disturbance in downtown Nelson.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the family of the officer and everyone with Abbotsford. Police Department during this difficult time. As well, we have all our Dispatchers, Call takers and Paramedics who knew Cst. Young or responded to this tragic call in mind.
These events are tragic and can be overwhelming, especially given the physical and emotional toll the current pandemic is already taking on our members. Such loss can be difficult to process and elicit a strong emotional reaction, whether directly involved in the response, or not. There are support options available for any of our members in need of assistance.
Please do not hesitate to get support and use the resources available to you. If you see a colleague who you think may need support, reach out to them and/or make a referral to our Peer CISM Team. Again, the below supports are available to all members, whether on-duty during this event, or not.
Today I wrote to the Abbotsford Police Department to express condolences and support from our 4,500 Emergency Dispatchers and Paramedics in British Columbia. I will update you again when we have more details about this situation.
Please take care of yourself and each other, in this difficult time.
Be safe and well.
Sincerely,
Troy Clifford
