Member Update – Geographic Change to Off-Car Unit Chiefs

Dear Members,

Re:  Member Update – Geographic Change to Off-Car Unit Chiefs

As you are aware, in March of 2020 the Employer began directing Unit Chiefs to report to locations other than their owned station in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

The Union filed a Policy Grievance on the matter and resolved the issue with the assistance of Arbitrator Corinn Bell on January 27, 2022.

An interim Arbitration Settlement has been reached to bridge the Parties to the next round of bargaining in 2022. The full settlement agreement can be found here.

In short, the Employer has agreed to the following interim measures of compensation:

1)     ER will pay station to station mileage (from original station to station where they pick up the car) to all OCUCs, this will be a manual submission for pay

2)     Employer will also pay a stipend to all current OCUCs who are traveling further from their home to the station where they pick up the car

3)     Impacted members are entitled to retroactive to April 1, 2021

All impacted OCUCs will need to submit for payments via non-event pay form (EHS 0022) for the travel stipend and an Expense Claim and Cheque Request form for mileage. Please review your individual circumstances and mileage, some members are owed a significant amount of money.

If you need further clarity, please contact the undersigned.
