Memorandum of Understanding Discussions

Dear Members;

On November 14th we updated you on Vince Ready’s decision to continue with discussions arising from a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in our Collective Agreement. As you may recall Vince Ready directed the parties to engage in discussions/negotiations on three outstanding issues:

  • Scheduling under Schedule A 1.01 of the addendum and related provisions
  • Introduction of regular part-time employee category other than Community Paramedicine
  • Requirements for Unit Chiefs under Article 13 and Schedule F5.01

After waiting over two years, we finally received the Employer’s proposals on November 18, 2016. I would characterize the Employer’s proposals as possibly the most significant concessions ever sought by government.

These concessions range from, among other things, de-pairing, de-targeting, selection processes, postings, seniority and the removal of established work schedules for paramedics and emergency dispatchers.

Once again, it’s obvious the Employer is seeking more from you, rather than adding the necessary resources identified in their own ORH report.

I have directed the Negotiations Committee to make themselves immediately available to assist the Executive to prepare a comprehensive counter proposal.

We will continue to keep you updated.

Sincerely,

Bronwyn Barter
