Notice of Member Stacey Laidlaw’s Death

Dear Members;

It is with profound sadness that we must inform you of the tragic passing of one of our members.

Yesterday, just before 1100 hours, a local Sparwood crew was dispatched to Paramedic Stacey Laidlaw’s residence for a medical emergency. During that emergency, Stacey went into cardiac arrest and, despite heroic efforts for over an hour, including transport to Fernie, she never recovered and died just after noon.

Stacey was not only a paramedic for the local community but also served the union local in the position of Regional Vice President (RVP) and had just returned home after a three-day board meeting and lobby event in Victoria with the rest of our Provincial Executive Board.

Stacey leaves behind a husband and six children and will be sorely missed by all that knew her.

As any further information becomes available, including details about any service and/or celebration of life, we will make sure to update you.

The Provincial Executive Board was updated in an emergency conference call yesterday and remains available to assist you in any way we can.

Right now, the best thing we can do is support each other through this difficult time and keep Stacey’s family in our thoughts.

The death of a colleague is especially difficult and people process and cope with this tragic news in different ways. If you feel that assistance navigating the flood of emotions would be of benefit to you or a co-worker, please do not hesitate to contact the confidential CIS peer program at: 1-855-969-4321 or the employee assistance program at 1-800-663-1142.

In Solidarity,

The Provincial Executive Committee
