Open Letter Regarding Professional Appearance

Via Email

Dear Linda and Barb;

Re:       Open Letter Regarding Professional Appearance

It has now been three (3) days since the Line of Duty Death (LODD) Service for Constable John Davidson of the Abbotsford Police Department.

I have had time to reflect on the tragic events and the amazing show of support and solidarity from the Public Safety community and members of the general public.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the support that BCAS was able to provide for the service.

During the service and in the days following, we have received and heard of many comments regarding the professional appearance of BCAS members and the lack of a dress uniform for staff who are not front line supervisors or otherwise issued a dress uniform by BCAS.  It should be noted that this is a recurring issue with any formal function that BCAS is involved in.

I write to you today, in an open letter, to again urge the organization to consider providing dress uniforms to staff members for use in formal occasions.

We understand that this represents a financial commitment and we are willing to work with the Employer on innovative solutions to accomplish this.  Perhaps this could be a topic for the next Provincial Joint Labour Management Committee (PJLMC) meeting in December, 2017.

I cannot over emphasize the importance of the uniform identity for our profession and hope that you both will give our request due consideration.

Please let me know if we can assist in any way.

Sincerely,

Cameron Eby
