Union Of BC Municipalities (UBCM) Convention 2021

Dear Members;

Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) 

As you are aware, each year the Ambulance Paramedics and Emergency Dispatchers of BC, representing over 4500 Paramedics and 270 Medical Dispatchers, attend the annual UBCM (www.ubcm.ca) convention and engage community, municipal and provincial leaders. Last year, for the first time ever, UBCM was held virtually as a result of the pandemic. Organizers of the event made the decision to go virtual for 2021. We are excited to not only be Gold level sponsors for the event, but to once again host a virtual booth (list of sponsors can be found HERE).

UBCM is an opportunity for our Union to engage with municipal leaders and showcase the work of our members while offering paramedic driven solutions to the healthcare and public safety challenges faced by BC communities.  

The past 18 months have been an incredible challenge for our members and the events of this summer only served to highlight the burden competing crises has had on our service. Through political engagement and advocacy, we have successfully demonstrated our organization’s ability to work with government and stakeholders to implement desperately needed solutions following the heat dome in June.  We are committed to continue working with all levels of government to not only identify solutions but to implement them collaboratively to improve pre-hospital care for all British Columbians. 

Today we have distributed our media release which speaks to our lobby efforts and the current issues we are facing; in conjunction, we will be meeting with media in response.

This is part of our overall strategy and is just one component of an ongoing comprehensive professional, community and public education resource to support our Provincial campaigns and initiatives.
