Upcoming Call for Nominations – CISM Chair and Public Education Direct

Dear Members;

Re:  Upcoming Call for Nominations – CISM Chair and Public Education Director

Recently, we had two committee members of our Provincial Executive Board announce their intentions to resign following Convention 2018.  Lindsay Kellosalmi (CISM Chair) and Annemarie Byers (Public Education Director) have both made the decision to step away from their positions.  These women have both been instrumental in developing their respective portfolios to meet the dynamic needs of our diverse membership.  Together they have put forth countless hours to advocate for our profession and our mental health.  On behalf of our membership, I extend my sincere gratitude for a job well done and wish them all the best in their next endeavours.

As per Bylaw 13.d3(b) we will be holding a call for nominations for a period of 21 days. First and second call will go out on Monday, September 24th, 2018.  Third and final call will go out on October 8, 2018 and nominations will then close on October 15, 2018.  Within 14 days of the closing of nominations as per our Bylaws we will hold a special Provincial Executive Board meeting at which time board members will hold an election.  The successful candidate(s) will fill the balance of the term (until Convention 2019).

At this time, we would also like to advise any potential candidates for the CISM Chair position, that over recent years, the role has morphed and developed into a role that requires commitment stretching well beyond Critical Incident Stress Management.  It is a role that participates in several areas of mental health support, disability accommodation, case management and project work as directed by current CUPE 873 Bylaws. The role places this person in areas of added traumatic, mental health exposure, with an increased responsibility and need to adhere to strict privacy regulations.

The successful candidate should be available to assist and commit to the current areas of work responsibility, with an added emphasis to commitment. The candidate should have a strong understanding of self-identification and assessment in the area of personal mental health; in addition, they should have good communication, organizational skills, be highly self-motivated, dependable and a good team player.

Details on how to nominate a member, or how to accept a nomination are provided in the first and second call that will be released on Monday (September 24, 2018).

In solidarity,

Jessica Chilton
